Thankful Thursday

We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop

Hi everyone, Emmy here, I refused to open my eyes for the photo. I am punishing mom for schlepping me off to the cardiologist yesterday. It is a whole hour away! Right across the street is a butterfly conservatory and my folks wouldn’t take me. They claim no pets are allowed- I call that discrimination.

My heart is pretty much the same with a mild increase in left atrial size, but I am stable.. I will take my meds every 12 hours now instead of every 24. I don’t need to go back for another check for 9 whole months though.Mom is thankful that I am not significantly worse. She is also thankful that we have such a good cardiologist available for me.

KaTwo is mom’s reading buddy so she is thankful to have her very own library card to Amber’s library. If you love to read, you can get one too. Click here. We love Amber’s book reviews and look forward to her reviewing Prancie’s Prayer.

Here is my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day to go with this photo:

crisp fall air is here
leaves of orange and red too
sit here and enjoy
Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. Mom came up with the first two and our co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.

Mewsic Monday

Hi everyone! We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww…Mondays, and Mewsic Moves Me (hosted by Curious as a Cathy, Xmas Dolly, JAmerican Spice and Stacy Uncorked.). The theme this week is songs with beverages in the title.

  1. Water Under the Bridge ( Adele): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BBvHRB5vQE
  2. Bridge Over Troubled Water ( Simon and Garfunkel): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_a46WJ1viA
  3. Whiskey Lullaby ( Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZbN_nmxAGk

I have actually never had whiskey, but I like the song and the video which features Ricky Schroder.

KaTwo has decided to be a statue.

The Hundred Story Home

We are joining McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks (even though she is on hiatus), Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays and Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

The Hundred Story Home by Kathy Izard is a touching memoir of one woman’s quest to make the world a better place.

*Disclosure: I received this book for free as part of The Book Look Bloggers book review program. I am not required to write a positive review, all opinions are my own.

Kathy Izard was a graphic designer, happily married with four daughters when she felt what she described as an “insistent whisper”. At the time, she was volunteering at a local soup kitchen in Charlotte, NC. One day, while working at the soup kitchen she meets a man who was formerly homeless and later became a famous author, Denver Moore. He asks her one simple question that changes the course of her life. “Where are the beds? ”

Prior to that , Kathy thought the soup kitchen was doing a great job serving the homeless of Charlotte. She had never given a thought to where they go after they eat. This one question inspires her to quit her job so she can find a way to create homes for the homeless. It takes a lot of work, prayer and donations, but she finds a way.

Throughout the memoir, she revisits her childhood. Until she was six, she had a fairly normal life with two sisters and her parents. Eventually, her mother’s bipolar disorder takes her away from the family for years. The author realizes now how easily her family could have become homeless because of this. So not only does she provide homes for the homeless, she finds a way to keep them stable once there through medical and psychological care.

Unfortunately, her focus on helping the homeless takes her away from her family and even when she is with them, she is not giving her all. It takes finding a letter of despair her college aged daughter wrote to make her realize this. Eventually, she finds a happy medium between work and family, but it takes a lot of effort.

I highly recommend this book as an inspiration to anyone that feels they are not living the life they were meant to live. Kathy Izard says, ” I wrote The Hundred Story Home not to convince you to help solve the homelessness in your community but to help solve the homelessness in you. ”

This book also has a reader’s guide and FAQ from readers at the end. I think it would be perfect for church groups or book clubs. It would also be a great gift for a friend that needs a little push to living their dreams.

I am going to spread the joy and give this book away so if you are interested, just tell me in the comment section. We will announce the winner on Wednesday’s post. I can only afford to mail it in the USA though, sorry, but books are heavy.

I review for BookLook Bloggers

Wee Wee Wednesday #ChewyInfluencer

Hi everyone! I know it is Wordless Wednesday, but I have another review for you. Influencers can choose two items per month to review. I usually only choose one item but when I spotted the Wee Wee pads I asked if they were for dog reviews only and they were not.

*Disclaimer- We received Wee-Wee Housebreaking Pads for free from Chewy in exchange for a fair review. All opinions are my own.

KaTwo always photographs well, but she is actually quite chunky. Sometimes, she ends up peeing over the edge of the box so I always set it on a puppy pad.

I had to do this with Lucy too so over the years, I have tried many brands of pads. I am very pleased with these, they don’t leak through like some brands do because they are made of 5 layers. They are on sale this month, $6.99 for a package of 12. And don’t forget they have free shipping on orders over $49. To order some, click here.

Yellow Submarine

Hi everyone! We are joining Athena’s Caturday Art Blog Hop and Rascal and Rocco’s Pet Parade. Today is also Y day for The A-Z Blogging Challenge.

I used lunapic cartoon effect on a photo of KaTwo posing with the crocheted yellow submarine. I like how it makes the submarine stand out. Monday is the last day of the challenge and after that, I will be having a giveaway of all the crocheted items.

I did not get a chance to bring Trouble to get spayed this week, but she will go Tuesday and I will have her FELV/FIV tested. Hopefully, after she heals she can fit right in. She is a sweetie, it is Sammy I worry about causing a problem, but I am hoping he will be more accepting of a female than he has been with Brody. Although, for the most part, he coexists with Brody.
