Bacon’s Shopping Around the World

Hi everyone. Before we get started, we want to send our deepest sympathies to our friends at Critters in the Cottage who had to say goodbye to their sweet girl, Mitalee.

I am skipping the book blog hop this week, instead we are participating in Bacon’s Shopping Around the World. This month participants were asked for a recipe of what they cook when it is too hot to cook.

This time I sent Jinx for the groceries and he did a great job. Notice our shopping cart is now blue instead of pink. I had used the pink one for a photo shoot before I gave it to my great- niece for Easter and now there is no getting it back for a photo shoot. She uses it every day. I bought this one for $9.99 and use it to store kitty toys in and when my great-niece visits, she can play with it. The truth is  I am 48 years old and bought myself a toy shopping cart 🙂

When it is hot, I make spaghetti and meatballs using sauce from a jar and frozen meatballs. That way I can microwave the meatballs and sauce and only have to cook the pasta.

I buy a bag of Perfect brand meatballs ( all beef)- on sale for $6.99

jar of Ragu- on sale for $2.50

Box of Ronzoni pasta ( I like to use penne) – $1.00

Plus there are plenty of meatballs and sauce that I can make meatball grinders another night. And I use the leftover noodles to make macaroni salad. 🙂

We are also joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays because Jinx with a shopping cart is pretty awwww worthy.

Phoebe and I were impressed that so many of you knew the butterfly was a Common Buckeye. We entered anyone that answered any kind of Buckeye into a drawing -and the winner is—– Lone Star Cats ! Congratulations! I will send that out this week, I just want to crochet some toys to go with it.

It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

Hi everyone! Today we are joining the Kid Lit version of It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? hosted by Unleashing Readers and Teach Mentor Texts.

*Disclaimer: I was given a PDF copy of Real Hamsters Don’t Bite in exchange for a fair review. All opinions are my own.

Real Hamsters Don’t Bite: Mighty and Brennon Run Away to FInd Cat Land and Unzip the Truth by Alexis Cleoford is a wonderful children’s book. It is a chapter book for grades 4-9, but could easily be read aloud to younger children as well and is even fun for adults.

Two cats, Brennon and Mighty are not happy about having to stay at a Pet Hotel so once their parents pick them up from there, they decided to run away and find Cat Land where cats are treated the way they wish to be treated. Along the way, they discover cats are being tortured by hamsters and decide to put a stop to that.

I enjoyed the writing style as well as little bits of information about cats that children will learn as they read the story. For example, we learn some foods are poisonous to cats like onions. I highly recommend this book for any age. I look forward to reading more in the series and introducing my great-niece to it, but she is only 1 year and 7 months old so I will have to wait a bit for that. You can buy a Kindle copy for only $2.99 at Amazon.

We are also joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays blog hop.

Be sure to stop by tomorrow, Phoebe is having a contest and the winner will get some catnip toys and a catnip mat.

It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

Hi everyone! Today we are joining  Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays and Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

I haven’t had much time to read between Christmas shopping, decorating and card writing. I am reading one fun book though on my Kindle. My Mom is going to get me the paperback for Christmas, but I am not a patient woman so I had to see it right away with The Kindle.

Makin’ Biscuits: Weird Cat Habits and the Even Weirder Habits of the Humans Who Love Them by Deborah Barnes is filled with wonderful antidotes than any cat parent will appreciate. And if you sometimes feel like you are a little crazy because of the extremes you will go through to please your cat, then this will make you feel “normal”.

I am honored that two of the stories I sent in were chosen. One is about my Angel Lucy and the other is about our Millie and what we do for him before he goes to bed.

You can get yours on Kindle or paperback at Amazon, it also makes a great gift for any cat lover on your gift list.

Lucy used to love to write to Santa. This is her letter in 2014, she wrote, ” Dear Santa, that elf you sent to spy on us sleeps with the fishes. Lucy”.

Me-YEOW!

Hi everyone! Today we are joining Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? and Comedy Plus’ Aww…..Mondays blog hops. We are thrilled to announce that Me-YEOW! has been released and is available for your enjoyment.

I am a big fan of Jeanne Foguth’s Sea Purrtector Files series. I have reviewed the other books here and here.

100_9958

Me-YEOW! is the 4th book in the series and the best one yet. Of course, I am biased because this one is dedicated to Spooky who left us in April. There is even a character in the book based on him. If you are not familiar with the series, it is best described as a James Bond story with cats. Xander would be James Bond and he works for Catamondo. They send him to India this time to investigate the leftover clones from the last book. I am sure you will enjoy, you can get yours for $2.99 on Smashwords. Click here or you can get the Kindle version or a paperback on Amazon.

100_9959Spooky’s photo is on the back cover.

Thank you Jeanne Foguth for dedicating this to our special boy, he is missed.

Call of the Cats

Hi everyone! We are joining two hops today. Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? and Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays.

I have a great book to tell you about today titled, Call of the Cats What I Learned about Life and Love from a Feral Colony by Andrew Bloomfield.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free in exchange for a fair review. All opinions are my own.

Andrew Bloomfield was not a cat lover, he had traveled all over the world and spent 2 years in Nepal. In an odd turn of events, he gave his mom a ride to a psychic and while there she was told her son would move to California and find his calling. He had no interest in California at the time and thought the woman was a phony, but somehow he did end up in California trying to be a writer. He did find his calling, but it was with feral cats. He is an excellent writer too though as I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I like to be warned of books that will make me cry so I will warn you that there were some parts that were sad. As you can imagine. caring for cats that are truly feral and living in an area with many predators, bad things are bound to happen. I was also getting upset as I read because these ferals kept reproducing and I kept wondering why TNR was not being used.

Andrew Blomfield knew nothing about cats, especially ferals when he started sharing a home with 2 women who also knew nothing about them either. Once they started hearing awful sounds of these cats being attacked and then finding a poor kitten that had choked on a chicken bone, they decided to intervene. They started feeding the cats twice a day and soon these cats became their world-for 20 years.

During that time, he became especially attached to a kitten he rescued when her mother didn’t seem to know how to care for her. He saved Tiny’s life and lets her live inside, eventually having others move inside as well. He also spends a large portion of his time outside, observing and protecting this group.I am happy to say, they finally caught on about TNR.

I highly recommend this book to any cat lover especially those involved with helping feral cats.Books like this are what I wish I had read before I started helping with TNR. The author also writes about his time spent in Nepal as well as several jobs he took to afford helping these cats including astrologer to the stars. I guarantee you won’t be bored for even a page.

You can purchase this paperback at New World Library for $15.95 or tell Santa to bring you a copy.
