A Sad ROAR

Today is ROAR day and I was hoping to have a great ROAR, but sadly, it is not. I was inspired by Melissa, Miss Mudpie’s Mom when she helped rescue a cat from death row last week by pledging and then honoring the pledge. Last night, I was on Twitter and saw a beautiful 3-year-old cat on death row so I pledged $25,there were many other pledges too, but sadly, Princess went to The Bridge today.

PRINCESS – A1061292

Now I am kicking myself. I should have pledged more, I should have read the information better. I didn’t realize they would adopt to people in New England, I thought it was only the tri-state area. I am angry too that the pledge required was over $200 even though $150 is returned of the animal is fixed- and she was already spayed so why make the fee so high? They also tested her and she was negative for FELV/FIV on the 23rd so why do they test if they are going to murder them so quickly? I know this happens daily and I try to shield myself from it, but I guess if we all shield ourselves then it will keep happening.

Now that I am in tears and made everyone sad, I will try to cheer you up with a video of Snowball enjoying the cool toy that Peaches and Paprika’s Mom brought us ( she is better than Santa).

Phoebe will be having a giveaway tomorrow and telling you more about Christmas.

  1. Ellen sweet friend do not beat yourself up over this. you do so much for all kitties at your home and ones far away! You make beautiful toys you share with everyone. You did all you could in this situation….there will be another opportunity to help a needy kitty.
    Extra hugs
    Madi and mom

  2. Hearing stories like Princess’s break our hearts. Thank you for doing what you did. It isn’t your fault that she didn’t make it – please don’t beat yourself up. You did more than most. And you do so very much for kitties everywhere. Thank you for all that you do!!! <3

  3. Ellen, we are so sorry to hear about Princess. We can’t save them all, but this is even more sad than usual as Princess was already spayed and FIV/FELV negative. To be abandoned was so cruel, and to not get another chance is just wrong. Sending lots of purrs and prayers as you grieve because we know you are. Snowball really was having a great time with her new toy. That was so nice of P and P’s mom to bring that gift to y’all. • Thank you for your kind words. Princess’ story is especially sad, she should not have been put down. Sadly, this happens all the time.

  4. Ellen i feel your sadness with you..we here in your bloggy circle totally get it..we know we can’t save all the animals..yet we keep trying..it is something that keeps us all awake at night..we see our precious pets and wonder why people cannot be like us..life is unfair and all we can do is try..cry..rage at the world and keep on plugging away. The only consolation if you can call it that is that Princess did not suffer on the streets injured and ill.It is not for the faint hearted to be a loving person..hugs to you my friend and bless you for trying and being a voice for Princess..Love Bev xx

    • I know all my fellow bloggers understand as we all go through things like this and see so much sadness. Fortunately,we do manage to rescue some and I know we will all keep trying. Sending you love and hugs too. XO

  5. Sheesh. No sweet dreams coming true for Princess, that is so sad indeed. Sending big hugs to you, you need them right now, You must feel so cheated and sad.

It was fun watching snowball, esp at the end of the video when she went all zoomie to catch the toy!

  6. It’s tough because we know we can’t save them all and when we don’t shield ourselves from that fact, we feel helpless and sad in the face of how many animals are in need and need saving. But we truly can’t save them all because unfortunately life is terribly unfair and cruel for far too many animals. The best we can do is to accept our limitations and to recognize that we do our best for those that we can do our best for. You do a lot for cats Ellen and you tried to help Princess even though you may have sensed it might not end well for her. That’s something , trying to help her in the first place. It is enough. The rest is unfortunately out of your/our hands. And it does suck. It really sucks.
    Hugs,
the critters in the cottage and their Mama Sophie XO

    • It is sad that life is so unfair. I know all us cat lovers go through this and it is so hard, but we do keep trying because to save any is better than none. Thanks for the hugs and kind words. XO

  7. That is so heartbreaking. My human has tried in the past to help pound kitties that didn’t make it too. One of them was an adorable kitten and it still haunts her.

  8. Oh Ellen I do feel for you…….this is something that bothers me tremendously too – if I look at just one photo….those sweet innocent faces….it just saddens me beyond description that I can’t save that one and all the others. It’s such a HUGE problem it can be overwhelming. You tried to help….it’s all we can do. On a lighter note, Snowball obviously approves of her newest toy!

    Hugs, Pam

    • Thank you for your kind words. I try not to be on Facebook or Twitter at night for this reason, but I was and something moved me to take action- I wish I had taken bigger action. Snowball does love that toy, several of them do. XO

    • It is so sad, I am glad the one you pledged was saved- I just wish more could be saved. There was over $200 pledged, I don’t know why a rescue didn’t come forward. XO

  9. I will never understand why shelters feel the need to unnecessarily euthanize cats!! It makes me very upset, sad, and angry that this happens everyday. I can’t look at pets on death row – they haunt me. I feel so helpless and wish I could help them all. *hugs*

    • I try to avoid the death row notices for the same reason, but I saw this and wanted to help. Thanks for your kind words and hugs. XO

  10. Aw Ellen, I feel your pain! It was so good of you to try. Without pledges like yours Peaches & Paprika would not even be alive today as they were both on the euthanasia list at NYaCC. You can’t do it all, you can just do a little piece and then be AT peace with that…! Fondly, Carol

    • I am glad Peaches and Paprika were rescued, they are such sweet and beautiful kitties- I can’t wait to meet them. It is sad so many don’t get saved and they are healthy and young. XO

  11. Dat is so very sad. Weez so sorry. And we hate da fact dat it duz happen each and every day.
Snowball looks really cute. Hope you have a better day. Sendin’ hugs.

    Luv ya’

    Dezi and Lexi

  12. We feel sad with you. No matter how dark the day, we can’t let go of the hope that something will change and the need to euthanize so many beautiful cats and dogs will stop. We love you so much. Give your kitties a hug – you need some kitty loving!!!

    • Thank you for your kind words, I love you too. It is so sad how many perfectly healthy pets die every day. XO PS: My kitties are doing a good job with the loving, Joanie is a good lap cat.

    • I don’t even understand how they operate. It is like ransom $250, and if the pet is fixed, $150 gets given back. If they knew she was fixed, why not just charge the lesser fee, over $200 was pledged. It is so frustrating- especially when you are 4 hours from where this is happening, it is such a helpless feeling.

  13. guys…..yur mom coulda pledged 80 bazillion dollarz……it troo lee woodna made any diffrunce….de pol aceez & pro seedurez at shelterz kneadz ta change…. nationwide….N peepulz thinkin kneadz ta change……werldwide….N until thiz happenz; sad roarz will continue for petz everee wear……yur mom tried…thatz de main thing….she stepped up…. & tried…Godspeed yur journey to heaven Princess; we R troo lee sorree ♥♥♥

    • You are very wise kitties, that is so true. I wish there was a way to make the changes needed, but all we can do is work together as bloggers getting the message out there of what is happening. XO

  14. Please don’t beat yourself up. Princess’s story is indeed a sad and tragic one, but you stepped forward and tried to help, which is more than most people would do. I have to remind myself every day that, while I wish we could save them all, we just can’t. We do what we can, though, and I pray for these poor animals every day.

And thank you for sharing that adorable video. That is one pawesome toy, Snowball!

    • Thank you for your kind words. Prayers are good too, at the very least if they didn’t have to suffer. Snowball loves that toy.

  15. I have had this happen a few times over the years when I pledged for a cat in Hamilton where I used to live. I felt betrayed & I was angry I was not told the poor cat was on the “EUTH LIST”. To me that is getting money under false pretenses! Darling Princess…..we will always remember you….
    Sherri-Ellen & Siddhartha Henry <3 <3

  16. I agree Ellen…and there is little we can do! I give to the Feral Cat group because I know it will be used for one of the cats should something happen to the cat I pledge for.
I also pledge for Siamese/Birman/ Burmese cats @ local Shelter…I go up to see them so I KNOW they are alive & not going anywhere….
When I surrendered Silky back 11 years ago she passed away suddenly; she had Cancer which we found out after the fact. There was another cat there who I liked & had been there for a long time so I had my $$ used for that cat’s care. That is the good thing to have an option so to speak….
I am sad for Princess tho’. So needless her being euthanized 🙁

    • Very sad, I don’t know why a rescue didn’t step in for her. I wish I had said I could take her if someone could meet me, but it is too late to wish. I know you do a lot to save kitties and it is sad that we can’t rescue more.

  17. Oh, I am so sad. I’m so sorry but I agree with everyone else here. It’s not for you to feel guilty at all although I do understand. It’s heart wrenching. You have such a big, loving heart for kitties. The whole situation is just horrible.

On a brighter note, it cheered us to see Snowball having fun playing.

    • It is very sad, thank you for your kind words and purrs and prayers. Thank you for all you do to help kitties. I wish there were more people like you in the world.

  18. This makes us all so sad. Mom worked in rescue for over five years and saw so much of this. She tried to focus on the ones being saved because it was the only way she could keep going. You tried to help. That’s the best any of us can do. We enjoyed seeing Snowball playing.

    • I admire your Mom could work in rescue for so long, I wouldn’t last a day and I would have more cats than I already do- and probably no hubby.

  19. Ellen, I am so sorry as well. I am glad I didn’t see that which you posted until just now as I was weak yesterday (better now) and I would have been crying too. Poor precious little innocent girl. I have tears and will each time I think of an innocent baby that could have been saved and was not To me it’s a tragedy.
    Love your dear heart Ellen.

  20. You did your best too Ellen. That is the trouble…..we do what we can & somehow there is always MORE to do 🙁
How can we help when we do not have proper info? We need to focus on the ones we DO help & save….
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU & DAVID & the 14 beauties!!!!
