Veteran’s Day

Happy Tuesday everyone and for U.S. residents Happy Veteran’s Day. I have great respect for those that protect our freedom and our lives. I am proud to say my dad was in the Air Force: LucyveteransLuckily, it was during peace time. Lucy was the only kitty we have that met my father as we got her in April 2001 and he passed away that June.

Today is medical day and I learned a good trick at the vet that I want to share with you. Do you have a cat that purrs when the vet is trying to listen to the heartbeat? Apparently turning on the water faucet in the exam room will distract most cats. If that doesn’t work, there is the alcohol on a cotton ball trick. You hold it near their nose ( not too close) and that distracts them as well. I just learned this recently which is surprising when you figure how many times I have been to the vet’s office.

I have noticed many bloggers showing adoptable pets on Tuesdays and I finally remembered to do it. I went to Petfinder and looked up cats named Raymond, which was my Dad’s name. There were several young ones which will have no problem being adopted, but this cutie in Washington State is older and needs a home: https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/29713279/  We are joining in the opt to adopt hopTuesday's Tails Badge:

  1. Today is medical day for me too…Chuck goes to the vet in a couple of hours. He never purrs at the vet’s office, but he certainly sheds his beautiful black coat like crazy! Furrs everywhere, and he likes to climb inside my coat instead of sitting on the table. Can’t say I blame him one iota!

  2. Purry kitties at the vets does make it hard for them to listed to the heartbeat. Sometimes blowing in their face works, or lightly tapping on their nose. One vet was such a jack-a$$ to our 14 year old Barney about purring. He didn’t just turn on the faucet, he carried Barney to the sink and turned on the faucet with Barney’s face just inches from the water. I wanted to smack him! Now you have a cat who is stressed even more and doesn’t trust the vet. Needless to say we never went back to that vet. That was 20 years ago and it still gets me riled up.

    • That was mean, I wouldn’t have gone back to that vet either. We had a Barney too, but she passed away last year from a liver problem.

  4. That is a cool trick to distract kitties at the vet! Boodie is the only one out of us that purrs at the vet. I’m happy there but not much on purring in general, and Binga is usually kind of mad.

  5. Lucy what an honor that you got to meet your Human Gpa….we thank all that served past, present and future.

Honestly shhhhh Harley is a purrty special kitty. He is 10 years old he has diabetes and IBD but according to mom he is one happy content fellow and loves his life. My sis and BIL are very good to him.
    Hugs madi your bfff

  6. Hello my dear furiends, We have been so scarce–the Human has let her work life take over *my* blog life! That is NOT a good thing and must be stopped! Did you know I am so naughty at the vet’s they have to knock me out to even LOOK at me??? Hee hee. I don’t surrender! They have to Take Me Down. XOXOXO
